Community Trainings

Live Well Winona staff provide trainings throughout the year for the community.

Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children Training and Learning Modules

The Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children (D2L) training is an award winning, two-hour training for adults to learn how to reduce instances of child sexual abuse. The training discusses how to prevent child sexual abuse, recognize the signs, react responsibly, minimize opportunity with safe environments, and talk openly with children. The training is evidence-informed and approved nationally as continuing education for nurses, dentists, social workers, and dental hygienists.

Training is free and open to public, but you must email vanessa.southworth@livewellwinona.org to register for the events. The free training is made possible by the Primary Prevention Project. Once you are trained in D2L’s Stewards of Children, there are opportunities for other learning modules. Below are the scheduled trainings for May 2022 through March 2023.

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches participants about mental health and substance use issues. The 6-hour training teaches you how to identify and respond to the signs of mental illness or substance abuse disorder. This training equips individuals with the skills to address a mental health disorder and takes the hesitation out of starting conversations around mental health.

There are no scheduled training dates at this time, but please contact us if you are interested in scheduling a training.

QPR- Question, Persuade, Refer Training

QPR training teaches you the three steps needed to help prevent suicide. Intent is to identify and interrupt the crisis and direct that person to the proper care.

“Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.”

There are no scheduled trainings at this time, but please contact us if you are interested in becoming trained in QPR.
