Central Lutheran Church is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. This congregation includes a child care center that serves the community with full-time care for infants through school age children. They also provide a community meal on Wednesday nights as well as worship and learning opportunities throughout the week.
Volunteer:
The Feast is a Wednesday community meal, which is served from 4:45-6 pm. They serve around 250 people each Wednesday night. The meal is open to all in the community, and the cost is “pay as you can”. A wide variety of people come to The Feast. Those who serve at The Feast enjoy being with a truly diverse crowd of people and getting to know those who serve as well as the guests. New volunteers are paired with experienced volunteers on teams, and cooking happens on a flexible schedule between Tuesday and Wednesday. This is a meal that makes a difference – one guest said, “This is the only time I get to eat with other people. It’s the best part of my week.” Volunteers will delight in seeing college students, senior citizens, parents and children gathered at a table and sharing conversation as they share a meal, knowing that this is a sign of a healthy community.
Requirements:
Food safety training is offered regularly, and all volunteers who handle food are asked to take the training once in their first three months.
