Ways to make space in your day
Habit or intention? Notice the things in your life that aren’t intentional.
What would you like to make space in your life FOR?
What would you like to make space in your life FROM?
Plan your day by choosing what you do. Do not bite off more than you can possibly chew in one day. Select three things that you need to do, and then allow yourself to feel the glorious sense of accomplishment that follows, instead of the heavy guilt that comes from not accomplishing a longer list.
Make space at home by getting rid of 10 things that are not BLU (beautiful, loved, or used). Make sure these items make it OUT of your home and into your car or they might end up back inside the house!
Make space in time by protecting your calendar. “Why put off until tomorrow what you can cancel?” Create false time constraints for yourself. Activities expand to fill the time we have available. Limit yourself, for example 30 minutes for email or 20 minutes to clean. Make a playlist to help you limit the time, or set an alarm.
To create instant space try breathing deeply, drinking a glass of water, or doing nothing for 10 minutes to let yourself just BE.
Use daily rituals as anchors. You might enjoy your coffee outside before work, or treat your lunch as an oasis and enjoy a walk, or do a brain dump onto a sheet of paper right before bed to get rid of all the thoughts and to-do items.
When considering new projects or invitations, try a new default answer such as “let me get back to you about that.” This allows you time to think about if you have the time and the interest to take it on.
