Bike to School Day is a great way to promote a broader message of safety and support for safe, active travel in general. By starting with children and the trip to school, communities become safe places for everyone to walk and bike.
Whether walking or biking, join your child on their way to school. Schools across Winona County are hosting bike to school events and activities. Look for details on organized activities from your school.
May 8 MAYORS BIKE RIDE
Winona Mayor Mark Peterson will lead a family friendly “slow roll” around Winona. Be ready to ride from City Hall, 207 Lafayette Street, on Wednesday, May 8, at 5:00 pm.
May 11 PLAY STREETS
Designed to help re-imagine streets as places for people to play and enjoy active healthy living. Select downtown streets will be closed to motorized traffic to allow kids and adults to participate in fun activities. Bike to the event and enjoy e-bike demos; kids skills course; Touch-a-Truck, food, bounce houses and other fun activities. Lin Bruce is a late-blooming, against-the-odds cross country cyclist, whose first transcontinental ride was in honor of her 60th birthday in 1999. In the years since then, she has crossed the U.S. four times, bicycled 800 miles to attend her 50th high school reunion, and 600 to her 60th, among other adventures. On May 22nd Lin will break the stereotypes of aging and inspire you to break out of your rut and achieve goals you didn’t think possible
