I had the privilege of participating in Declare it Day for the first time this year. This is a national movement lead by a group called Fellow Flowers. Luckily for Winona, we have several Fellow Flowers members right here in town that took it upon themselves to host a local celebration of Declare It Day for the second year in a row. Deb McClellan and Tammy Kronebusch truly outdid themselves in planning a fun and interactive event designed to challenge participants by declaring a goal for themselves.
I was reminded that:
- Goals do not have to shoot for the stars. I heard many attendees that day declare small steps toward a better version of themselves. Goals can include boosting your confidence, de-cluttering your environment, setting a goal time for a race, participating in a race, striving for a specific achievement at work, spending more time volunteering, or protecting your time with your loved ones.
- Accountability is a powerful tool for success. There is something to be said for declaring OUT LOUD that you want to achieve something. Once it’s out there, people around you want to help you reach that goal. They may share words of encouragement, tips, or other resources to support you.
- Positivity is contagious. Hearing all the energy, excitement, and inspiring proclamations at this event was so uplifting and motivating.
Fellow Flowers has a beautiful manifesto called Say Yes that was shared at Declare It Day. It concludes with these simple statements:
To the life you want.
To the life you deserve.
To a life worth living.
SAY YES to you.
