For Mark Roeckers, being involved with theater productions has been a life passion.
Not only is Roeckers a math teacher at Cotter, but he also volunteers and directs the productions for the Home Community Options (HCO) in Winona.
In high school and college, Roeckers said he enjoyed being part of his school’s theater productions, and when he started teaching at Cotter 24 years ago, he wanted to keep his passion alive, so he helped the crews backstage to build the sets. At the time, he was also involved with the HCO productions and was later asked to start directing the shows.
“The productions at school lead into working with the other community productions,” Roeckers said.
Home Community Option provides housing and services for mentally handicapped adults. HCO is currently beginning its 20th year of productions integrating individuals with disabilities into the performing arts as a means of enhancing life in the community.
