The organizers of the Winona Toys for Kids program are addicted to the glow.
That, and the generous fellow volunteers that help with the toy collection and distribution event, are what make the effort worthwhile. Months of organizing locations for barrels for toy donations, toy pick-ups and community contributions are all worth it when the annual toy store opens to donate gifts to families in need, organizer Dave Marshall said.
“You won’t believe how those kids’ eyes go big,” Marshall said.
Ruth Inglett, fellow organizer of Toys for Kids (formerly Toys for Tots) and operator of the Toy Store for the past 30 years, said it is heartwarming to “see the smiles and hear the appreciation” of the parents, who tell her that without the efforts of the event, they would not have a Christmas.
